Dhoni sued for ‘defaming’ Hindu god

Bangalore, May 6 (IANS) A local court Monday registered a defamation case against Indian cricket captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni for allegedly denigrating a Hindu god (Vishnu) and hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.

Sixth additional chief metropolitan magistrate Choori Khan registered the case under section 295 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) on a petition filed by Jayakumar Hiremath, a city-based social activist.

“By posing as Lord Vishnu for an advertisement in a business magazine, holding many things, Dhoni has denigrated the Hindu god and hurt our religious feelings,” Hiremath alleged in the petition.

Khan posted the case to May 12 for recording Hiremath’s statement after taking cognisance of the alleged offence.
