New Delhi, May 10 (IANS) On the 24th birthday of the Delhi gang-rape victim here Friday, her house was silent.
“I can’t forget my daughter. She would be been 24 years old today,” her father told IANS. “We cried and cried today,” he said.
“We celebrated her birthday each year. But for the last four years she would not be with us as she was studying in Dehradun,” he said.
“Whenever she was at home our mother prepared ‘aloo poori’ for her as she relished it. Her friends would visit her on her birthday,” the victim’s brother said.
“Though she is no more, her memories are still alive in the hearts of people demanding justice for her,” said a family member.
The woman was brutally tortured and gang-raped in a moving bus Dec 16, 2012, here five men and a juvenile. She later died in a Singapore hospital. She is survived by her father, mother and two younger brothers.
The juvenile is facing proceedings before a Juvenile Justice Board, while the other accused are being tried in a fast-track court.
One of the accused, Ram Singh, allegedly committed suicide in jail.
