Lucknow, May 31 (IANS) A policeman was killed and six others critically injured when a cattle-smuggling gang rammed its truck into a police jeep late Wednesday, police said here Friday.
The incident occurred in Bhadohi near Varanasi. After the incident, the smugglers fled towards Allahabad, 220 km from Lucknow.
On being chased by police, the smugglers stopped their vehicle by the roadside. But when the police jeep halted a little ahead, the truck driver rammed into the vehicle. A sub-inspector and five others were critically injured. Constable Ashok Kumar Yadav, 25, died on the spot.
The injured were rushed to a hospital in Varanasi, police said.
