BJP youth wing protests near PM’s residence

New Delhi, May 12 (IANS) Hundreds of activists of the BJP’s youth wing gathered near the 7 Race Course Road residence of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh here Sunday, demanding his resignation after two union ministers quit over malfeasance and impropriety.

Burning the effigy of the prime minister near his official residence, the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha protestors managed to break through two barricades.

The police personnel used water canons to disperse them.

Proper security arrangements have been made near the Prime Minister’s House,” a senior police official told IANS. Prohibitory orders under section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code, banning any gathering of four or more people, have been imposed in a few areas of central Delhi, including 7 Race Course Road, he added.

According to a Delhi Metro official, the Race Course Road Metro station has been closed.

“The Race Course Metro station has been closed for public from 11 a.m. till further directions on the police advice,” a Metro official said.

Pawan Kumar Bansal was removed railway minister and Ashwani Kumar resigned as the law minister Friday, following allegations of corruption and impropriety against them.
