Bhubaneswar, May 25 (IANS) Indian steelmaker Bhushan Steel Limited (BSL) Saturday said it was all set to double the annual capacity of its steel plant in Odisha to six million tonne by the end of this year.
The plant at Meramandali in Dhenkanal district, about 150 km from state capital Bhubaneswar, was commissioned in 2006. It has an annual output of three million tonnes.
In the first phase, the company invested Rs.5,828.15 crore in the plant.
“The second phase expansion work, which entails capital investment of Rs.13,183 crore, is scheduled to be completed by the end 2013,” the company said in a statement.
At present, the plant employs about 15,000 people, both directly and indirectly. After completion of the second phase, total employment potential is likely to touch 25,000, the statement added.
The BSL plant in Odisha manufactures pig iron, billets, slabs and hot-rolled steel coil.
