Moscow, May 28 (IANS/RIA Novosti) A bear attacked two geologists in the central Siberian region of Evenkia, killing one and mauling the other, the Russian interior ministry said Monday.
The geologists were fishing Saturday in the Indiga river despite an explicit ban on going outside the fence around the drilling station they worked at.
Police officers who arrived at the scene shot the bear dead.
Last year, lack of food caused brown bears to repeatedly approach residential areas in the Krasnoyarsk territory in search of nutrition. In September, a bear killed a geologist at a camp site in the northeast of the territory.
