Berlin, May 31 (IANS) Bayern Munich’s Dante Gustavo and Luiz Gustavo will miss the DFB Cup final (German Cup) and the chance to wrap up a historic title treble in one season as they are forced to join the Brazilian football team for the Confederations Cup.
Two days ahead of the German Cup final here, the Brazilian Bayern duo will head to their home country to meet the official deadline for the Confederation Cup preparations Saturday, reports Xinhua.
After lengthy discussions, trying to find a joint solution with the Brazilian Football Association and FIFA, the German giant and Champions League winners had to bite the bullet when they have been ordered to release the players for the “Selecao”.
“We’re releasing the players. They’ll travel to Rio this evening,” Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge said on the clubs official homepage Thursday.
In accordance with international FIFA statutes, clubs must release their players 14 days ahead of a tournament therefore the Bavarians released the Brazilian internationals to evade legal actions and consequences for future call ups for both players.
Rummenigge added: “You have a clear impression that a form of psychological terror is being used against the two players. I find the pressure being applied inhumane and unscrupulous. More than anything else, I think it’s very unfair, because the players are being forced into a position that I believe is unacceptable.”
Nonetheless, the Selecao encounters Japan June 15 for the opener of the Confederations Cup in Brasilia whereas Bayern Munich face Stuttgart at the German Cup final June 1 to round off a possible historic season.
