Chennai, May 2 (IANS) An attempt to blow a bridge near Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram was made among the stray incidents of violence in some places in the state Thursday following arrest and jailing of PMK leader S.Ramadoss, said police.
“There was an unsuccessful attempt to blow a bridge in the Villupuram district. The bridge is intact,” a police official told IANS.
Police are on the lookout for the attackers and have seized some detonators found at the spot.
Police here arrested 16 people for protesting in defiance of prohibitory orders while one bus was damaged by unidentified attackers in Cuddalore.
According to reports reaching here, some PMK activists also stoned two government buses at Tiruttani, a temple town.
On Tuesday, Ramadoss was arrested for defying police orders and holding protests at Villupuram, around 170 km from here. He has been sent to 15 days in judicial custody.
