Shimla : President of India, Pranab Mukherjee starting his three days visit to Himachal today, the Himachal Pradesh University, Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha and Indian Institute of Advance Study have all been spruced up as the first citizen of the country is scheduled to attend functions at these venues.
Renovation, fresh coat of paint and repair works are complete at all the places related to the visit of President. The President, who arrives later today, would be staying at The Retreat, Charabra, which is summer House of the president, 13 Kms from the city.
Security arrangements have been beefed up in Shimla. Extra police has been deployed to maintain vigil as well as regulate traffic during the presidential visit.
On 24 May, the president is to address the state assembly which is celebrating its golden jubilee, after which he would move to Indian Institute of Advanced Studies for inaugurating the new Tagore Center at the institute.
Later in the day he is scheduled to preside over the convocation of HP University and would confer, degree and gold medal to meritorious students.
About the security arrangement on the campus, a university spokesman said, “tighter security norms have been applied and all students and others have been asked to carry identity proof with them.”
“President of India presiding over the convocation of Himachal Pradesh University is a historic moment for us,” said Amonkia, a university student.
To ensure smooth traffic flow, police have prohibited roadside parking at several places in the city during the presidential visit.
