Air Works to supply spares to Gulfstream

Bangalore, May 30 (IANS) Leading aviation services provider Air Works India Engineering Ltd. will supply spare parts and components to civil aircraft maker Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation, a company official said Thursday.

As a third party MRO (maintenance, repair and overhaul) player, Air Works will also provide warehousing, custom clearance and delivery to Gulfstream customers from its warehouse adjacent to the Bangalore international airport at Devanahalli, about 40km from the city centre.

“By having inventory in India, we can expedite delivery of spares to domestic and in-transit customers, saving hours or even days,” Gulfstream vice-president Derek Zimmerman said in a statement here.

The value of inventory is estimated to be $15 million in this calendar year.

“The arrangement with Air Works will lower costs for operators and reduce aircraft downtime on ground,” Zimmerman asserted.

The inventory will include rotable and consumable parts for all in-production Gulfstream business jets and its out-of-production models such as the G-V, G-IV and G-200.

“The partnership will help Gulfstream aircraft owners and operators in India to get spares and components in quick time from our forward stocking location in Bangalore,” Air Works executive director Ravi Menon said in the statement.

Gulfstream operators will also have access to parts and materials inventory valued at $56 million from its three other sites in Asia – Beijing, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Gulfstream has a fleet of 20 aircraft across the country as against five over a decade ago.

State-run Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has authorised Air Works to maintain, repair and overhaul Gulfstream’s fleet of business jets and other aircraft at its hangar in Mumbai.

As the EASA (European Aviation Safety Agency) only certified MRO in the country, Air Works services Airbus A320, Boeing 737 and ATR 42/72 aircraft flown by private air carriers and chartered operators.

As a wholly-owned subsidiary of the US-based General Dynamics, Gulfstream designs, develops, manufactures, markets and services advanced business-jet aircraft.
