Kolkata, April 26 (IANS) Youth Congress and the BJP’s women front Friday staged separate demonstrations to protest against the chit-fund scam in West Bengal and demanded strictest action against Saradha Group kingpin Sudipta Sen.
Hundreds of Youth Congress cadres staged a protest rally in front of the state secretariat, Writers’ Buildings, and protested against the alleged involvementof leaders of the ruling Trinamool Congress in the scam.
The protestors also demanded strong action against Sen, the promoter of chit-fund funded Saradha Group, which has gone bust.
Sen was arrested from Sonmarg in Jammu and Kashmir Tuesday with two of his associates.
Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Mahila Morcha activists also staged a demonstration in the city, protesting against the chit-fund muddle in which lakhs of depositors allegedly lost their hard-earned money.
The group downed shutters of its offices as it was unable to repay the depositors who had parked their money, lured by astronomically high interest rates promised by the company.
