Jakarta, April 17 (IANS) A woman drowned and over 40 others were missing when a boat carrying 50 people capsized in the Mahakam river in Indonesia’s East Kalimantan province Wednesday evening, reported Xinhua.
Spokesperson of Indonesia’s National Disaster Mitigation Agency Sutopo Purwo Nugroho said 41 people were still missing while one woman’s body had been retrieved from the capsize site.
The tragedy occurred at 18:00 middle Indonesian time at Harapan Baru village in Loa Janan Ilir subdistrict of the province.
Leaks in the boat were suspected to be the reason for its capsize.
