Washington, April 14 (IANS) The fifth round of the US-China Strategic and Economic Dialogue will be held in Washington, D.C. during the week of July 8-12, the US Treasury Department announced Saturday.
Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew and Secretary of State John Kerry, as President Barack Obama’s special representatives, will join the dialogue with respective Chinese co-chairs and members of the Chinese delegation, Xinhua cited the Treasury Department as saying in a statement.
“The dialogue will focus on addressing the challenges and opportunities that both countries face on a wide range of bilateral, regional and global areas of immediate and long-term economic and strategic interest,” the statement said.
Meanwhile, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang also confirmed that the Strategic and Economic Dialogue (S&ED) will be held in July in the US.
He said that during the visit of Kerry, the two sides reached consensus on mechanisms of the China-US High-level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange and the S&ED.
He said Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong will continue to serve as president for the China-US High-level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange.
Chinese Vice Premier Wang Yang and State Councilor Yang Jiechi will be responsible for the economic dialogue and strategic dialogue respectively as special representatives of the Chinese President, he added.
