Abu Dhabi, April 13 (IANS/WAM) The UAE’s Red Crescent Authority (RCA) will provide emergency humanitarian aid worth more than 2.8 million dirhams (over $76,000) to help Palestinian refugees in Syria.
The aid will be provided by the RCA in coordination with the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA).
The relief aid will be procured from local Syrian markets by the UAE agency, whose Syria operation aim to help more than 1,26,000 crisis-hit Palestinians in and outside Syria.
The UNRWA has estimated that about 400,000 Palestinian refugees were in need of emergency humanitarian assistance and that more than 12,000 Palestinian refugees were displaced from refugee camps in Syria to neighbouring countries.
Responding to UNRWA’s appeals, the RCA provided emergency food aid to Palestinians in refugee camps in Damascus and Aleppo and in make-shift shelters set up by the international agency at its schools in Syria.
