Thane (Maharashtra), April 4 (IANS) At least nine people were killed and dozens injured Thursday as an unauthorised seven-storey building collapsed here, officials said.
Disaster control department official said apart from the over 40 victims rescued many more were suspected to be trapped under the debris of the building that crumbled around 6.30 p.m. Shil Dhaigar area.
Officials said at least 80 people were present in the building at the time of the incident. The sixth and seventh floors were vacant and eighth floor of the building was under construction, officials said.
Municipal Commissioner R.A. Rajeev and District Collector P. Velarasu supervised the relief operation.
