New Delhi, April 14 (IANS) After a hectic day at work, dropping at noisy bars don’t seem to be a great idea. This is where Speakeasy bar and lounge, a neighbourhood kind of place, comes in.
Set up in a peaceful market in Gurgaon, Speakeasy has been started by well-known bartender Yangdup Lama.
The dimly lit area and wooden interior would remind you of the Mexican-styled bars where cowboys would come and bang their fist on the table for a beer. However, you can just relax and unwind at the place.
Sharing his thoughts behind opening the place, Lama told IANS: “This is a very new concept. We were very clear that it had to be a neighbourhood place and we also made sure that food has something that complements the beverage.”
“We worked very hard on the menu to make sure that quality is very good. It’s all about good drinks, foods, stories and conversations,” he added.
In terms of palate, it’s an interesting break from the typical Indian cuisine.
The place offers appetising vegetarian dishes – Mushroom Rockefeller, a dish made with diced and wilted mushrooms, garlic, onions, spinach, melted mozzarella cheese. You can also order crispwafer, lemon garlic aioli, vegetable crostini, baked cream eggplant, onion rings, dill creme on toasted bread crostinis.
For the lovers of non-vegetarian platter, there are enough mouth-watering dishes to satiate your taste buds. Try C&D spiced chicken drumsticks, chicken skewers, pan-roasted chicken breast or your regular fish ‘n’ chips.
If you are not in a mood to splurge, Speakeasy is an ideal place for you. A meal for two can cost around Rs.1500 excluding taxes.
Another interesting thing about the place is that bartenders are graduates from Lama’s institution Cocktails and Dreams.
The place also offers books on bartending and one can dig into them for tips.
“We want people to read more about bartending and read about it here,” said Lama.
However, the only low point is dim lighting as one can start feeling low after staying there for too long.
