Sons of minister, ex-CM in Congress Karnataka poll list

New Delhi, April 14 (IANS) Priyank M. Kharge, son of Minister for Labour and Employment Mallikarjun Kharge, and Ajay Singh, son of former chief minister Dharam Singh figured in the second list of 40 candidates the Congress announced Sunday for the Karnataka assembly polls.

While Ajay Singh will contest from the Jevargi constituency, Priyank Kharge will fight from the Chitapur reserved constituency.

Congress Rajya Sabha member Anil H. Lad will join the poll fray from Bellary city.

The Congress announced 177 candidates in its first list April 5.

The party replaced Devraj H. Patil with B.B. Chimmanakatti from Badami, while Durgappa Sangappa Hoolagere replaced Pamayya Murari from Lingsugur reserved seat.

Congress sources said that the party’s central election committee would hold further consultations on the remaining nine contentious seats and would announce candidates in a day or two.

Karnataka will vote May 5 for 224 members of the 225-member assembly. One member is nominated.

The results would be out May 8.

Congress’ Karnataka unit chief G. Parameshwar, legislative party leader Siddaramaiah and state women’s wing chief Manjula Naidu figured in the first list.

While Parameshwar will fight from Koratagere reserved seat, Siddaramaiah will contest from Varuna constituency and Naidu from Rajaji Nagar.

Former state party chief R.V. Deshpande will contest from Haliyal.
