Second suspect in Boston bombings captured

Boston, April 20 (IANS) The 23-hour massive manhunt for Dzhokar Tsarnaev, 19, ended Friday night with the second suspect in the Boston Marathon bombings being taken into custody from a boat in the backyard of a house in Watertown, a Boston suburb.

The suspect #2 in custody, Boston police tweeted hours after Police cornered the suspect and “engaged” the man.

CNN said one of its crews near the scene heard about two dozen gunshots fired, but it was not clear if the shots were fired by the suspect, authorities or both. A number of small explosions, believed to be stun grenades, also were heard.

Authorities, using a bullhorn, called on the suspect to surrender: “Come out with your hands up.”

Dzhokar Tsarnaev had escaped an overnight shootout with police in suburban Watertown that left his elder brother 26-year-old Tamerlan Tsarnaev — the other man wanted in the bombings — dead.
