Sao Paulo, April 16 (IANS) Santos have made a bid to sign Chile international striker Humberto Suazo, the Brazilian club has revealed.
Suazo is currently in the final year of his contract with Mexico’s Monterrey and Santos plan to woo the 31-year-old before the start of the Brazilian Serie A championship May 25, reports Xinhua.
“He is the type of player we are looking for. At the moment we are lacking a player in that position,” Santos spokesman Felipe Faro told Lancenet.
Two obstacles to the move are Suazo’s reportedly high salary demands and the Brazilian football confederation’s cap of three foreigners per team per match.
Santos already have Argentinians Walter Montillo, Ezequiel Miralles and Pato Rodriguez in their squad.
Suazo has scored 94 goals from 181 matches for Monterrey in Mexico’s top-flight and has won 50 international caps for Chile.
