Moscow, April 20 (IANS) Russia’s Aliya Mustafina won women’s all-around gold at the 5th European championships here.
Prior to the triumph, her fellow teammate David Belyavskiy topped the men’s all-around competition. This is the second time Mustafina has won a European championship, reports Xinhua.
“I’m pleased, just pleased,” Mustafina told reporters. “I’m satisfied because winning the European championships is not so easy.”
The 18-year-old gymnast, who won the gold medal on the uneven bars at London 2012 Summer Olympics, scored 59.032 points, beating 16-year-old Romanian gymnast Larisa Iordache by 0.60 points.
One of Mustafina’s teammates in the Olympic silver-winning Russia team, Anastasia Grishina, claimed bronze, scoring 0.50 points fewer than Iordache.
The championships run through Sunday.
