Kolkata, April 30 (IANS) At least six policemen were injured Tuesday outside the West Bengal assembly in a clash with political activists protesting against the chit fund scam that deprived millions of their hard earned money.
The workers of Socialist Unity Centre of India-Communist (SUCI-C) staged the protest outside the assembly demanding punishment for all, including politicians, involved in the Saradha chit fund scam.
The party had fought the last Lok Sabha polls as an alliance partner of the ruling Trinamool Congress.
The SUCI-C activists were carrying posters with slogans like “guilty politicians should not be protected” and “we want stringent punishment for all the guilty”, police said.
They assembled outside the high court-side gate of the assembly and raised slogans on the issue coinciding with a discussion in the house on a new legislation on chit funds introduced by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee’s government.
When the police rushed to chase away the demonstrators, there was a scuffle in which six to seven police personnel were injured, an official said.
