Chennai, April 30 (IANS) PMK founder-leader S.Ramadoss was arrested Tuesday from Tamil Nadu’s Villupuram district for defying police orders and holding protests.
Demanding an inquiry in the April 25 violence at Marakkanam near here, Ramadoss tried to hold a demonstration at Villupuram, around 170 km from here.
A court later sent him to 15 days’ judicial custody.
The district administration had given the permission to hold the protest Monday but later revoked it.
The arrest comes a day after Chief Minister J.Jayalalithaa categorically blamed the violence on the PMK and Ramadoss’s “hate speech” at the party’s youth conference at Mamallapuram, around 70 km from here.
Ramadoss, however, alleged that the chief minister read out the report prepared by police in the assembly.
In Chennai, police arrested PMK legislator Guru for violating the conditions levied while giving permission to hold the youth conference last Thursday.
Interestingly, it was Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Singh Yadav who inaugurated the conference at a function organised here April 22.
