New Delhi, April 12 (IANS) Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Friday greeted the nation on the occasion of traditional harvest festivals Baisakhi, Vishu and Bihu, and hoped it will usher in peace and prosperity for all.
In a message, prime minister said these traditional New Year celebrations are also festivals that give us an opportunity to thank our farmers for their contribution to the nation’s food security.
“May Vaisakhi, Vishu, Puthandu, Mesadi, Vaisakhadi and Bahag Bihu usher in peace, prosperity and happiness for all,” he added.
The harvest festival will be celebrated Saturday.
Baisakhi is celebrated mainly in Punjab, Vishu in Kerala, Bihu in Assam, Mesadi and Puthandu in Tamil Nadu.
The festivals also mark the beginning of the Hindu solar new year.
Vice President Hamid Ansari also extended his greetings and good wishes to the nation and said these festivals herald the beginning of the harvest season and the commencement of the traditional New Year.
“May the festivals bring prosperity and happiness for all and promote the spirit of unity, amity and peaceful coexistence amongst us,” he added.
