Shimla: To streamline and make visit of tourists more exceptional and safe, Department of Tourism has proposed to make higher secondary education a minimum requirement to issue tourist guide licenses here.
Tourism Department has made the proposal taking in preview the growing incidence of fraud with tourists by tour guides in Shimla.
Department of Tourism has issued tourist guide license to lesser educated in the past, but now the department will only issue licenses to plus-two (12 grade) pass in any discipline.
Dr. Manoj Sharma, Additional Director, Department of Tourism confirming the proposal said, “Tourist guide license will now be decided and issued on academic merit.” “In addition to education, age limit and extensive knowledge of city will also be mandatory criteria,” he added.
Following the suggestion, only educated youth will be able apply for the tourist guide license now. An applicant will have to be minimum plus-two pass, only then he will be eligible for the licenses.
It will also be mandatory for tourist guides to renew their licenses after every three years.
