Vancouver (Canada), April 6 (IANS) Filmmaker Anurag Basu, who is set to direct a biopic on the legendary Kishore Kumar, says there is no problem between the team and the late actor-singer’s family. He clarified that the project is delayed as they are awaiting dates from actor Ranbir Kapoor.
“Kishore Kumar’s biopic is delayed for 2014. This happened because of Ranbir’s dates, not the late singer’s family. He wants to finish two films and then come back,” Basu told IANS on the sidelines of the first edition of Times of India Film Awards (TOIFA).
Ranbir will essay the role of legendary singer Kishore Kumar. The actor-director duo has previously worked together on the critically acclaimed and commercially successful “Barfi!”.
Basu is all praise for Ranbir, and said: “Ranbir is very special, very effortless, easy going and most importantly, he doesn’t treat himself as special. He is part of the team, and that’s the great feeling which comes with him. So it is a treat to work with him every time.”
“Barfi!”, about a sweet romance between a deaf and dumb Murphy, played by Ranbir, and an autistic girl, essayed by Priyanka Chopra, picked several awards at various events.
However, there was not a single mention of the movie at the recently announced National Film Awards. Basu admits it was a bit disappointing.
“I wanted the film to win a National Award, especially for the role Priyanka Chopra played. But that didn’t’ happen, so I am little upset. However, I didn’t get the chance to see the film that won the National Award for best actress. I want Priyanka to win as many awards as possible for her role in the film,” he said.
Priyanka earlier won a best actress National Award for her performance in “Fashion”.
