New Delhi, April 5 (IANS) A new garden which boasts of exquisite flora, cloud forests and waterfalls, along with a fine dining and shopping experience – with the grand Marina Bay in the background – is all set to woo tourists, a Singapore Tourism Board official said here Friday.
“Gardens by the Bay”, which integrates greenery into the urban landscape, is spread over 100 hectares and offers a “botanical holiday” that includes the best of Singapore’s flora, the cloud forests of the tropical highlands and the colourful flowers of Mediterranean.
“We understand the need to constantly evolve and develop the tourism landscape. Visitor preferences and travel habits are always changing,” said Chang Chee Pey, executive director (South Asia, Middle East and Africa) of the Singapore Tourism Board.
“We work closely to innovate and shape our tourism landscape, catering to the changing profiles of our target audience. ‘Gardens by the Bay’ is one of the latest attractions,” he added.
Built with cutting-edge innovations in environmentally- friendly technology, the trees of the garden have solar panels on the top helping the garden produce its own electricity.
Set up on reclaimed land in the city centre, the officials said that the garden will mesmerize the visitors, offering them a feel of a theme park.
“They would be able to stroll amidst exquisite flowers, visit the heritage gardens, lakes savour the specially choreographed light and sound show and indulge in fine dining and shopping.”
The first phase of the garden was opened in June 2012 and has so far attracted 3.5 million visitors.
