Srinagar: An earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale rocked Kashmir Valley Thursday. No damage to life or property was reported.
Sonam Lotus, director of the local weather office told: “A moderate intensity earthquake measuring 5.8 on the Richter scale occurred here at 12.02 p.m.
“Its epicentre was in the Hindukush region of Afghanistan,” he said. The depth of the quake was measured at 233.7 km.
On Oct 8, 2005 a devastating quake measuring 7.9 on the Richter scale killed more than 40,000 people on the two sides of the Line of Control that divides Jammu and Kashmir between India and Pakistan.
