Kolkata, April 8 (IANS) West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee Monday condoled the death ofBritain’s first woman prime minister Margaret Thatcher, saying she fought hard for the common people to give them due recognition and position in society.
“I am deeply saddened to know about the passing away of Lady Margaret Thatcher, former British Prime Minister and a legendary figure in world politics.”
“She is widely known as ‘Iron Lady’ as a mark of her uncompromising politics and leadership style. She fought hard for the common people to give them due recognition and position in the society,” said Banerjee on her Facebook wall.
Banerjee also posted Thatcher’s famous statement on being prime minister for the first time – “Where there is discord, may we bring harmony. Where there is error, may we bring truth. Where there is doubt, may we bring faith. And where there is despair, may we bring hope.”
Thatcher died Monday after suffering a stroke. She was 87.
