Chennai, April 4 (IANS) Theatre artist Lakshmi Priyaa Chandramouli, popularly known as LP, who is foraying into films with upcoming Tamil comedy-drama “Sutta Kadhai”, would always like to be known as an actor.
“Since I come from a theatre background, I’m extremely passionate about acting. Having forayed into films, I want to remain an actor and do roles that are performance-oriented, instead of being called a heroine for being glamorous,” Lakshmi told IANS.
“I wouldn’t even mind the length of a role, but if there is scope for performance, then I’ll be more than happy to do it,” she added.
LP is actively involved in theatre with Chennai-based theatre group called Evam. She has been working full time with them for the last five years.
“I didn’t take any acting workshop before starting my first film. My theatre experience helped me to a great extent. Even though theatre and acting is different, the basics are the same. Theatre predominantly helped me to memorise lines for my film,” she said.
Lakshmi would like to continue theatre alongside her acting career, but admits it could be tough managing time for both.
“As an actor I wish I could continue theatre. However, my only worry is that theatre requires a lot of time and I doubt if I would be able to take out time in between my acting assignments. I wouldn’t want to do injustice to theatre by not investing ample time,” said LP.
Besides “Sutta Kadhai”, she is also doing a cameo in upcoming Telugu-Tamil bilingual “Gouravam”.
Lakshmi has two Tamil projects in the offing.
