Nairobi, April 6 (IANS) Kenya will face former African champions Ghana in an international friendly June 1, which coincides with the country’s Independence Day.
Both nations will use the tie as a build-up match for their 2014 World Cup qualifiers against Nigeria and Sudan, respectively, with the Kenyans entertaining the Super Eagles five days later in their re-scheduled clash, reports Xinhua.
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) chair Sam Nyamweya confirmed the fixture Friday.
“Ghana want to play us in a friendly match ahead of their 2014 World Cup qualifier tie against Sudan. The match is most likely to be played on June 1. It’s because of good show against Nigeria that our friends Ghana want to meet us in a friendly,” said Nyamweya in reference to Kenya’s 1-1 draw against the Ghana in Calabar a fortnight ago.
Ghana are regular visitors to Kenya whenever they are drawn to face East and Central African sides.
