Shimla: Infrastructure group Jaiprakash Associates has asked the Himachal pradesh government for permission to start land acquisition for its cement plant in the state, Industries Minister Mukesh Agnihotri informed the state assembly Tuesday.
He said the company required 212 hectares, including 158 hectares of forest land, for the plant at Malokhar in Bilaspur district.
“The company has now sought permission to start acquisition of 172 hectares,” the minister said.
The memorandum of understanding between the government and the company for the project was signed Aug 18, 2010. The forest clearance for the project was given by the state Oct 10, 2011.
Replying to a supplementary on reducing cement prices in the state, the minister said: “I want to make it clear once again that all future clearances being sought by companies will be granted only if they agree to reduce price of cement for people of the state.”
“In case the cement companies do not bring down cement prices, all options are open for the government,” he added.
