Cairo, April 1 (IANS) Egyptian government has said it believes Iran should participate in the diplomatic efforts to find out a solution of the ongoing Syria conflict.
“It is necessary to cooperate with Iran and for Tehran to take part in the accomplishment of the diplomatic solution of the Syrian conflict and end of the bloodshed in this country to provide democratic future for the Syrian people and the unity of Syria,” reported RIA Novosti citing Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Amr.
The minister stated it Sunday while meeting visiting Iranian deputy foreign minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
Amr said he believed daily armed clashes in Syria would lead to a sharp deterioration of the situation in the whole region.
“This is why it is in the interests of all regional powers to put an end to the tragedy in Syria as soon as possible,” he said.
About 70,000 people have died in Syria since the start of the uprising against President Bashar al-Assad in March 2011, according to UN figures.
