IPL: KKR score imposing 180/4 against Sunrisers

Kolkata, April 14 (IANS) Riding on some brilliant batting, Kolkata Knight Riders scored 180 for four in their Indian Premier League match against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Eden Gardens here Sunday.

Choosing to bat, KKR shot off to a solid start as both their openers skipper Gautam Gambhir and Manvinder Bisla scored fluently.

The home team reached 50 in the seventh over as Sunrisers bowlers looked listless against the onslaught of home team batters. Bisla, who had nothing to show much with the bat prior to the game, played aggressively hitting a few airy boundaries.

Sunrisers drew first blood when Bisla 28 (24b 5×4) holed out in the deep off leggie Karan Sharma, with the score at 59 in the eight overs.

Gambhir, joining hands with Jacques Kallis, kept the runs flowing with some crisp boundaries. The southpaw continued his good run in the tournament reaching his 50 off 39 balls.

The opener departed in the 13th over immediately after notching up the 100 for his team. Gambhir 53 (45b 6×4 1×6) was bowled by Ashish Reddy.

KKR’s foreign recruits Kallis and Eoin Morgan revved up the run rate towards the end as they flayed the Hyderabad bowlers all around the park. Morgan scored 22 runs off Thisara Perera’s last over, including three boundaries and a six to take KKR past the 150 run mark in the 18th over.

Perera, who gave away 44 runs off his four overs, was the most expensive bowler for the visitors.

Morgan 47 (21b 5×4 3×6) was run out in the very next over to bring curtains to his blistering knock.

Kallis 41 (27b 6×4) was the last wicket to fall after he was run out in the last ball of the 20th over.
