Bogota (Colombia), April 10 (IANS) Independiente Santa Fe secured their passage to the Copa Liberatdores knockout phase with a 2-1 away victory over Deportes Tolima in an all-Colombian clash.
Striker Jimmy Chara opened the scoring for the home side before two goals in 18 minutes from Cristian Borja ensured Independiente’s third win of the campaign Tuesday, reports Xinhua.
The result leaves Independiente top of their group on 11 points while Deportes Tolima remain second on seven points with one group match to play. The top two teams from each group progress to the round of 16.
In other matches, Tigre defeated Sporting Cristal 3-1, Penarol overcame Deportes Iquique 3-0 while Emelec held Velez Sarsfield to a 0-0 draw.
