New Delhi, April 3 (IANS) There has been a substantial improvement in the operations of the rural self employment training institutes across the country, officials said Wednesday.
The ministry of rural development has recently reviewed the scheme of rural self employment training institutes (RSETI) and noticed substantial improvement in its operations, the officials said.
There are now 552 such institutes in the country.
In the review meeting, secretary, rural development S. Vijay Kumar said the banking sector was realising that their investments in RSETIs were truly business promotion activities, since they gave entrepreneurial skills to people and enabled them to access bank credit.
He informed that he would be taking up the matter with the bank chiefs and with the department of financial services and the well performing RSETIs and their sponsoring banks would be publicly recognised by the ministry in a function every year.
Kumar also commended the Andhra Bank, State Bank of India, Canara Bank, ICICI Bank, Punjab National Bank and Syndicate Bank for their work in the institutes.
