Huge stocks of medicinal drugs seized from Haryana bus

Chandigarh, April 21 (IANS) Haryana’s Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and police have seized psychotropic drugs worth Rs.15 lakh from a private bus in the state’s Fatehabad district, an official said Sunday.

The FDA spokesman said that the intoxicants included over 30,000 capsules of Parvon Spas, 2.35 lakh tablets of Lomotil, 2,520 bottles of Rexcof cough syrup, 18,000 capsules of Spasmo Proxyvon and 50,000 tablets of Carisoma. All are over the counter medicines misused by addicts.

The FDA team, accompanied by police, carried out searches on the private bus, belonging to Kashmira Transport Company, near the bus stand in Fatehabad, 300 km from here.

“The intoxicants were kept in luggage on the roof of the bus. Police took this luggage in their custody. The owner of the luggage was not among the passengers in the bus. It was later revealed that the driver of the bus, Rai Singh, a resident of Ganganagar in Rajasthan, was involved. He was arrested on the spot,” the spokesman said.

The bus has been impounded.
