Shimla: HRTC Taxis in Shimla city are primarily limited to the use of senior citizens above the age of 60 and for kids below 10 years of age, a new High Court direction confirms.
According to a fresh direction issued by the High Court of Himachal Pradesh in judgment of CPW 7784/10 (Samidha Society), the Himachal Road Transportation Corporation run taxis in Shimla city will be chiefly limited to the use of senior citizens, above the age of 60 and for kids below the age of 10 years.
The High Court direction however confirms that disabled persons can travel by the HRTC taxis regardless of their age.
HC order directs that it’s only after senior citizens, kids and disabled (if any) have accommodated themselves, that other able bodied persons between the ages of 10 to 60 can fill the vacant seats.
Currently the scene at the HRTC taxi stands at various parts of the cities (including the restricted roads) is distressing, people regardless of their age, just stuff into these taxis like animals.
If Shimla police is able to have this HC direction implemented correctly, senior citizen, kids and disabled will be able to commute comfortably in the city.
