HI appoint scientific advisor for women’s hockey team

New Delhi, April 9 (IANS) Hockey India (HI) Tuesday appointed Matthew Tredrea as scientific advisor to the national women’s team.

The 26-year-old Australian aims to make the team physically and mentally fit looking ahead to the World League Round 3 tournament in June 2013 and the Junior Women’s World Cup in July 2013.

HI secretary general Narinder Batra said the appointment of Tredrea is an important step towards ensuring the proper fitness level of the national women’s teams.

“Our senior and junior teams are preparing for important tournaments like the FIH World League Round 3 (Qualifier for World Cup 2014) and 2013 Junior Women’s World Cup, respectively. Mr. Tredrea will play a key role in the physical and mental fitness of our players, as they prepare for these major tournaments,” Batra said.

Before being appointed to the Indian Women’s Hockey team, Tredrea has worked with the Newcastle Knights (Australian professional Rugby League club) for almost two years as assistant strength and conditioning coach. He has also worked on different assignments as the strength and conditioning coach for Australian Rugby League Development and CSHS Rugby League Programmes.
