Srinagar, April 20 (IANS) The Met Office here Saturday evening forecast heavy snowfall on the area of Zojila Pass and Drass town in Jammu and Kashmir.
“Moderate to heavy snowfall is likely to occur during the next 36 hours from Zojila Pass to Drass town of Ladakh region. People are advised to take adequate precautions,” Sonam Lotus, director of the Met Office said.
Lotus also said moderate rain and snow will occur over most of the places in the Kashmir Valley and the hilly areas of the Jammu region during the next 24-hours.
“In the Kashmir Valley, the weather would remain generally freakish during this week with spells of rain, cloudiness and windy conditions,” Lotus said.
Zojila Pass in north Kashmir’s Ganderbal district connects the cold desert of Ladakh region of Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of the country.
During the winter months, road links to Ladakh remains disconnected because of heavy snowfall on the Zojila Pass.
Drass town near the Zojila Pass is the coldest inhabited place in the country where the winter temperatures are known to drop as low as -40 degrees Celsius.
