HC fines land office for delay in reply on BJP’s plot

New Delhi, April 15 (IANS) The Delhi High Court Monday imposed a fine of Rs.3,000 on the land and development office for failing to reply on the BJP’s plea that it has not been given a plot for its Delhi office despite paying over Rs.1.30 crore in 2007.

Justice G.S. Sistani also directed the department to file its response within four weeks on the contempt petition filed by the Delhi unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

The Delhi BJP sought initiation of contempt proceedings against Sudhir Krishna, principal secretary of the urban development ministry, and Mahmood Ahmed, the land and development officer in the ministry.

The court would next hear the case July 23.

The petition said that in 2001 the Delhi unit of the BJP was allotted a plot an Deen Dayal Upadhaya Marg and the party May 8, 2007 made a payment of over Rs.1.30 crore to the ministry.
