New Delhi, April 22 (IANS) The central government wants states to organise activities in schools and universities to sensitize students about road safety.
Road Transport and Highways Minister S. Sathyanarayana said this in the Lok Sabha.
He said his ministry had suggested to state governments that debates and painting competitions could be held in educational institutions focussing on road safety.
The minister said a positive response had been received from Bihar, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Karnataka and Sikkim.
He said the ministry had offered up to Rs.5 lakh to each state for holding such activities in schools and universities.
