New Delhi, April 10 (IANS) Police Wednesday told a Delhi fast track court that they could not collect from the IGNOU a copy of the date sheet of first year B.A. exam for Vinay Sharma, an accused in the Dec 16, 2012 gang-rape.
Special Public Prosecutor Dayan Krishnan told Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna that the matter did not relate to police.
Accused Sharma Tuesday pleaded before the court to direct IGNOU to provide him a date sheet for his B.A. exam.
The station house officer concerned cannot be directed to go to the university and collect the date sheet, Krishnan told the court, explaining that the matter was between the accused and the university.
The family members of Sharma have the right to go and collect the exam schedule from the university, added Krishnan.
Sharma, through his counsel A.P. Singh had told the court that IGNOU had not yet sent its date sheet and a direction should be issued to the university to provide the exam schedule to allow him to prepare for his exams.
Sharma said he had taken admission in first year of B.A. programme of IGNOU in August last year, four months before the Dec 16, 2012 gang-rape incident.
The court earlier provided a tutor to Sharma to prepare for his Indian Air Force clerical job test.
The six accused in the case had brutally assaulted and gang-raped a 23-year-old physiotherapy intern Dec 16, 2012 in a moving bus. The woman died 13 days later. One of the accused is dead and another is a minor facing proceedings before a Juvenile Justice Board.
