Forest guard killed by illegal miners in Rajasthan

Jaipur, April 18 (IANS) A 50-year-old forest guard was beaten to death in Rajasthan’s Bundi district early Thursday when he tried to stop illegal mining in a forest area. Two suspected atackers have been detained, police said.

The attack on the guard took place in Bundi’s Dabi area where mining is banned.

“The victim, Shayar Singh, was deputed as forest guard in the area. He received a tip-off that some people were carrying out illegal mining of sand stones in Bapadu forest area,” a police officer said.

Shayar Singh and forest outpost in-charge Virendra Singh went to the spot and found over half a dozen men transporting sand stones from a mine.

The duo was attacked when they tried to stop the miners. “Someone repeatedly hit Shayar Singh on the head following which he died on the spot. Virendra had to flee from there to save his life. He later informed the police,” the officer said.

He added that the police have detained two people, while search is on for others.
