New Delhi, April 21 (IANS) A hunt was launched Sunday for a second accused in the rape of a five-year-old girl here after the lone suspect arrested from Bihar told investigators that another man was involved in the brutalisation, police said.
Accused Manoj Kumar, in his early 20s, told interrogators about his accomplice who was involved in the east Delhi incident that came to light April 17, a police officer told IANS.
In an official statement during the day, police denied rumours of arresting another accused in the casr or even looking for any other suspect.
Manoj Kumar has been sent to judicial custody till May 4.
He was arrested Saturday morning from Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district, two days after the victim was recovered from his rented house in Gandhi Nagar area.
“Manoj Kumar was also involved in a case of trespass lodged in Delhi,” the officer told IANS.
The girl was abducted April 15 and kept hostage for two days without food and water in Manoj Kumar’s room, on the ground floor a building in which the victim’s family also lived, police said.
The girl, who was raped and tortured, was rescued when members of her family heard her screams April 17, police said.
