DMK, TESO to strive to shift CHOGM out of Sri Lanka

Chennai, April 6 (IANS) DMK president M. Karunanidhi said Saturday his party MPs and Tamil Eelam Supporters Organisation (TESO) meeting would meet the envoys of various countries in London to press for shifting the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) out of Sri Lanka.

In a statement issued here, Karunanidhi, reiterating his demand that CHOGM slated to be held later this year should be shifted out of Colombo, said on behalf of TESO it has been requested that the Commonwealth Ministerial Action Group (CMAG) should deliberate and decide that CHOGM should not be held in Sri Lanka.

The CMAG meeting will be held in London April 26.

According to Karunanidhi, party MPs and other members of TESO would meet the envoys of countries whose ministers will be attending the CMAG meeting and explain why CHOGM should not be held in Sri Lanka Nov 15-17 as scheduled.
