Paris, April 22 (IANS) Rafael Nadal’s attempt to win the Monte Carlo Masters for the ninth straight year was foiled by World No.1 Novak Djokovic here.
Djokovic, who had twice lost in the final to Nadal, won 6-2, 7-6 (7-1) to end Nadal’s 46-game winning streak in the tournament Sunday, reports Xinhua.
The defeat was only the second at the event for Nadal since his first coming as a teenager in 2003.
Nadal, who returned to tennis in February after seven months out with a knee injury, stands 38-6 in clay finals, losing to only three players – Djokovic (three times), Roger Federer (twice), and Horacio Zeballos (once).
