New Delhi, April 3 (IANS) Defence counsel in the Dec 16 gang-rape case Wednesday cross-examined an Air India (AI) official posted at the IGI cargo terminal who received the coffin carrying the victim’s body.
Cross-examined by counsel of accused Mukesh, Akshay Singh and Pawan Gupta, the official denied their claim that the death certificate and other documents accompanying the victim’s body, which was flown in from Singapore, were manipulated.
The AI official deposing as a prosecution witness before the fast-track court of Additional Sessions Judge Yogesh Khanna said: “I had seen the original passport of the victim. I had not seen the dates on the passport. I cannot comment on the contents of the documents prepared in Singapore.”
The official was also cross-examined Tuesday.
The witness was posted at the IGI cargo terminal Dec 29 and received the coffin containing the body of the 23-year-old woman who was brutally gang-raped in a moving bus.
During their cross-examination, the defence counsels claimed that the death certificate was not issued by a medical practitioner.
They claimed that the certificate was not a death certificate and that it was a certificate of “registration of death”.
However, the official told the court that before handing over the coffin to the father of the victim, he had checked all the documents.
“I had seen the death certificate of the victim at the time of receiving and handing over the dead body,” he added.
