Havana, April 13 (IANS) Cuban Ana Leydis Arias will represent her country at the Pan American Triathlon Cup scheduled April 21 in Bridgetown aiming to accumulate points for a continental ranking.
JIT, official site of the National Sports and Recreation Institute (INDER), cited the athlete’s coach Dioseles Fernandez, as saying that positioning her in the continental ranking will provide her tickets to the Central American and Caribbean Games in Veracruz, 2014, the Pan American Games in Toronto-2015 and the Olympics Rio de Janeiro 2016, reports Xinhua.
Fernandez said at the contest Arias will meet experienced triathletes as the Kyla Chapman from the United States, Canada’s Dominika Jamnicky, Maria Isabel Escudero from Colombia and Chilean Flavia Diaz.
The competition is made up of three events: 750-metre swim, 20- kilometre cycling and a five-kilometre race. So far, athletes from 13 countries are ratified to participate at the cup in Barbados, JIT said.
