Congress to agitate over power tariff hike in Punjab

Banga (Punjab): Hit by the announcement of power tariffs being hiked, opposition Congress has lashed out at the Akali BJP government in the state and threatened to hold district level agitations seeking a withdrawal of the decision.

Addressing party workers state congress president Pratap Singh Bajwa that the Prakash Singh Badal led government had created a financial mess in the state and was solely responsible for the heavy losses being incurred by Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (formerly Punjab State Electricity Board).

Power tariff hike of 9 to 11 percent added over the previous years power hike of 12 percent was a cruel joke on the people, he said.

The three thermal power projects of Goindwal Sahib, Rajpura and Talwandi Sabo were running behind schedule and SAD-BJP government has given false hopes of supplying 24 hour power supply to people of Punjab, said Bajwa.

After holding a Chinten Sammelan in Goa the government has given a rude shock to the people. Poor governance by the Badal government has pushed up the state debt to about 1.50 lakh crores and Punjab, once the leading state of the country, is now the among the most indebted ones, he added.
