Committee recommends more funds for urban development ministry

New Delhi, April 23 (IANS) A parliamentary standing committee Tuesday asked the Ministry of Urban Development to ask the finance ministry and the Planning Commission to grant more funds to the National Capital Regional Planning Board.

The committee gave this recommendation in view of the slow progress of projects and heavy dependence on multilateral and bilateral agencies.

The committee’s report was tabled in the Lok Sabha Tuesday.

“The committee is informed that out of 277 infrastructure development projects, only 188 have been completed and 89 projects are at various stages of implementation,” said the report.

The report stated that in 12th Five Year Plan, the Ministry of Urban Development asked for Rs.500 crore as budget allocation but was sanctioned only Rs.60 crore.
